The Transcendental Tourist

Kreativ Blogger Award

On May 2, 2011 I got a windfall in psychological income from this blog. I was honored with a Kreativ Blogger Award by Phoenix Rose, one of the more soulful writers I’ve encountered in the blogosphere. She maintains two blogs: Socrates and Serendipity, an insightful personal journal, and Writing from the Ashes, a treasure chest of her works of fiction and poetry. Check out both blogs for some food for thought and food for the soul.

But before I do a Sally Field ( “You like me! You REALLY like me!”), I have to follow the instructions that came with the award:

  1. Pass it on to 10 bloggers and notify them; and
  2. Reveal 10 things about myself that most people don’t know.
And so, I’ll pay it forward to the following bloggers who have enriched my life in their unique ways. Here’s some “blove” (blog love) to my favorites:
  • Ron Reed’s If I Had a Blog! – Ron’s site is the LOL-lapalooza of humor blogs. He finds humor in everything from conversations with his mother to his date with latex. His “sideways view of life” makes you realize – life is a laugh! I’m just saying.
  • Rob San Miguel’s The Chair – What can you expect from a blog inspired by satirist Dorothy Parker? An incisive and sardonic take on pop culture, current events, social issues, and, what the hey, grammar – that’s what!
  • Susan Deborah’s Meanderings and Reflections – Sus is an educator who goes meta (as in metacognitive). She shares her observations and musings on everything under the sun and beyond, then casts thought-provoking questions and encourages feedback and discussion as a good teacher would.
  • Lisa Brandel’s The Widow Lady – A widow and an artist, Lisa shares her meditations on love, loss, and light. Her writing – poignant and perceptive – brings tears to my eyes and a smile on my lips, usually at the same time.
  • Deanne Shir Fry’s Some Days or Now? – Deanne’s blog is like the moon, brilliant and mystical. It reflects the light of the universe with her personal growth and epiphanies that mostly mirror my own life journey.
  • Nehha Joshi’s Candid Utters… – Nehha offers a slice of Indian life. Her blog has a strong personal voice and imbued with distinct local color – saffron!
  • Monika Kremin’s harMONIc day – Monika is the best photoblogger, bar none. Her eye-popping photos capture more than people and places; they capture their soul.
  • Jorie Pacli’s The Long and Winding Road – A prolific blogger and a voracious blog reader, Jorie has a myriad of tricks up her sleeves. She focuses on travel blogging but peppers her writing with effortless shifts in genres.
  • Jim McIntosh’s Holes in My Soles – A shoemaker with an incurable wanderlust, Jim serves up riveting anecdotes about wildlife and tribal cultures in remote regions of the world. He also blogs for a cause – the conservation of elephants in Botswana.
  • Mother Teresa’s The Rain in Spain – Mother Teresa is “a mother and a Teresa, so don’t go reading any saintliness into the name.” What she lacks in holiness, she more than makes up for it in humor. Accounts of her expat life in Spain and mind-effing photo contests are muy divertido.
Now comes the harder part. Here are 10 things I think you don’t know about me:
  1. I write most of my blog posts after midnight.
  2. I draft and edit my posts directly on WordPress.
  3. I suck at spelling.
  4. I seesaw from confidence to insecurity after I publish my blog posts, sometimes within the same day.
  5. I’m not techie.
  6. I wear disposable undies when I travel.
  7. I have nightmares about forgetting my camera before taking a trip.
  8. I can sleep like a baby on any kind of moving vehicle.
  9. My sense of direction is usually out of whack.
  10. I count the number of rows from my seat to the nearest exit on an airplane.
I don’t know if any of that is even remotely interesting. Again, tons of thanks to Phoenix Rose for the award. It was difficult to narrow down my favorite blogs to just 10. I wish I’d get another one so I could include others I missed in this list!

    1. It’s my pleasure to read your blog, Nehha! I’ve always been interested in India, but it even looks more inviting through the prism of your eyes.

  2. Dearest Ajota,

Like Jorie Pacli, I am a voracious blog reader of my two favorite friend writers. I always look forward to reading your blog and Carrie Simpson’s. This article has given me an idea about other worth reading blogs. I am sure they’re as inspiring and humorous as yours and Carrie’s. Congratulations on your award. I will always be proud of you!

    Wawitta of the Kings

    1. I hope to feature you in one of my posts soon – traveling with Wawitta!!! 🙂 Geez, let’s make it happen this time. I’ve already passed up Turkey!

  3. Hello AJ,

It is a high honor indeed to receive recognition from one who inspires me daily. Thank you so much for the award and for the beautiful travels and stories you share.

  4. Age, I really liked the way you have described me and my blog. *Bows* Thanks for the glowing acknowledgment and the award.

Wonder of wonders, I share number 8, 9 and 10 on your list. I am the same. I guess it’s not so surprising but still.

English teacher?!!?!?! and you suck at spelling? Amused 🙂 and number 6 sounds cool!

Congratulations, Age on the award and I wish you many more as the Transcendental Tourist is definitely worth a zillion honours.

    Joy always,

    1. Sus, you’re in your element when you go meta. It gives me a glimpse of how you are in the classroom. What I’d give to be in your class!

I strongly suggest you try #6. It’s liberating when you’re not carrying used undies in your suitcase! 🙂

Yeah, I’m a bad-ass English teacher. I wouldn’t survive without spell check. What a shame, really.

      Cheers to your award!

  5. Congratulations AJ. You really deserve the award. I myself am inspired by your blogs. Truly, the award is another feather on the cap of Filipino bloggers. Keep it up!

    1. That’s so heartwarming, especially coming from a pro. Makes the late nights I spend creating my entries even more worth it.

  6. Thanks for your wonderful recommendation, AJ. I love your site and feel you truly deserved to be recognised.

Thanks also for some new blogs to add to my reading list 🙂

    1. Your blog deserves a wider audience, Phoenix. Thanks again!

My list is eclectic, but each of them is wonderful in their own way.

  7. Hey, thanks for the award! I’ll do the post soon…once I figure out 10 things that no one knows about me….that I’m willing to share, that is! 😀

You don’t need to be insecure about your posts…they’re great! So, stick with the confidence and keep writing!

    1. Muchas gracias for the vote of confidence! Your site deserves the award. It’s fun, funny, intriguing, informative – all at the same time!

      Don’t sweat the 10 things. I shared only the non-incriminating ones. 😀

  8. Hey You,

Thank you so much for this. I am honored to be in this company and on your wonderful blog!

I am sorry I didn’t respond sooner. I have been taking a break from FB and temporarily deleted my account so I hope you didn’t take in personally as many did with message of wondering what they did wrong for me to block them? Have some faith in me people I say and think better of me than that…lol I just really needed to unplug from what I was feeling was a bit distracting from everyday life and things I should have been focusing on at home.

Anyway, my email is lifebythebeach@comcast.net so you can keep in touch with me through my email as many are getting me that way.

I am getting ready for our trip to China and Tibet which is departing in 4 weeks. This one is a long one a little over 3 weeks so I have lots to organize and get ready. We are so excited to be visiting 5 places in our *Heaven on earth* book and traveling to more than 15 cities while we are there and cruising down the Yangtze too. I have lots to do to get ready but am really looking forward to this amazing adventure.

I am sure you will come to mind because every time I see the great wall I remember your lovely story you share about the snow flake. I will have lots to share when I get back which is maybe when I will get back on FB. Who knows just feels good to keep my promise to spend that time I would give to Fb to what I am calling my “appointment with God”. I decided it was more important for me to give that time to focusing on taking care of my body which I had been neglecting so I have been working out hard twice a day. I want to get all three things in balance and the body has to be a priority because lord knows I have done the work on my mind and spirit!

As you can see I haven’t written a post in a while but will get around to it soon I hope. Thanks again for the award and noticing I was gone on fb with out the negative accusations I seemed to get from many. Please send me an email and let me know what you have been up to and how you are doing.

Lots of love to you and your family! XOXOXO Big Hugs to all!!!!!

    1. No worries, Deanne! I understand we have to tune out sometimes. Balance is the key, I agree.

Enjoy China! It’s a whole new world out there. Just practice defensive biking. 😀

Thank you for your friendship. I’ll keep in touch.

  9. Hey AJ, I just been checking back on old traffic and find this! Wow what do I say but thanks! I’ve been in Namibia and Botswana chasing elephants, survived some hair raising experiences, and slowly blogging them.
Thanks for the recognition. And elephants rule!
